Swipebuster alternative: what happened to Swipebuster, and what to use now

Swipebuster was the name many people searched when they wanted to know if someone was on Tinder. The site no longer runs under that name. Here’s what happened to it, and the options that do the same job today.

Swipebuster is now Cheaterbuster. A post on Cheaterbuster’s blog dated September 28, 2018, says Swipebuster rebranded, changed its site and web address, and that the old Swipebuster address won’t be restored. So the closest Swipebuster alternative is its own successor. Other options include CheaterBusting, which checks 12 named dating apps from one photo, and free checks you can run yourself.

Is Swipebuster still working?

Not under that name. When we checked in October 2026, swipebuster.com didn’t load at all. Cheaterbuster’s 2018 post had already warned that the Swipebuster address was unreachable and wouldn’t be restored anytime soon. [1]

The same post said the service itself was untouched and that existing accounts would keep working with the same login details on Cheaterbuster. If you had a Swipebuster account years ago, Cheaterbuster is the place to ask about it. [1]

Did Swipebuster shut down?

It rebranded. The name and the old address went away, and the business carried on as Cheaterbuster. The post gives two reasons: the team needed the rebrand to keep offering the service, and news coverage had often called it “Swipe Buster,” which made the site hard for people to find. [1]

The post doesn’t mention Tinder or explain anything technical, and we won’t guess at reasons it doesn’t give. What it does make clear is that the same team kept running the service under a new name. [1]

Why can’t you just search Tinder for someone?

Because Tinder doesn’t allow it. Tinder’s help center says you can’t search for a specific person, and its newer Search feature, which it describes as a test built around interests, doesn’t return results for a name, age, or social handle. Profiles reach you through the swipe deck, which is shaped by your own distance and age settings. [2] [3] [4]

That’s why every option below starts from what you already know about the person, such as a photo, a first name, an age, or a city, instead of a name typed into Tinder.

Is Swipebuster the same as Cheaterbuster?

Yes. Cheaterbuster’s own blog announced in September 2018 that Swipebuster had become Cheaterbuster, with a new name, site, and web address.

Can I still log in to an old Swipebuster account?

Cheaterbuster’s 2018 post said existing accounts kept working with the same login details on Cheaterbuster. For anything about an old account, contact Cheaterbuster directly. We’re a separate company and can’t see its accounts.

Why did Swipebuster change its name?
