Which dating apps does CheaterBusting check?

Here’s each app on the list, who it’s built for according to its owner, and what to keep in mind when we check it. Each app also has its own profile search guide, linked further down this page.

Tinder

Match Group, which owns Tinder, calls it the world’s most popular app for meeting new people. Tinder has no way to search for a specific person, so profiles only reach people through the swipe deck. We compare the photos, first name, and age on each profile in the area you give us. [1] [2]

Bumble

Bumble lets members snooze their profile, which hides it from other people while they keep chatting with existing matches. Premium members can also turn on Incognito Mode, which hides them from everyone they haven’t liked first. A snoozed or incognito profile may not be visible during a search, and your report says so when that limits what we could confirm. [3] [4]

Hinge

Match Group describes Hinge as the dating app for people who want to get off dating apps. Its Discover feed only shows people who fit each other’s preferences, so a friend may never be shown a particular profile. That’s one reason a free check on Hinge so often comes up empty. [1] [5]

OkCupid

OkCupid launched in 2004 and matches people using their answers to its questions. As on every other app, we compare the photos, name, age, and area on the profiles we find. [1]

Grindr

Grindr calls itself the world’s largest network for gay, bi, trans, and queer adults, and it’s built around proximity. Because nearness matters so much on Grindr, the neighborhoods and places you add carry real weight alongside the photo. [6]

Badoo

Badoo has been running since 2006, and its site presents it as a place for friendships and chats as well as dating. The same first name can turn up many times in one city, so a clear photo does most of the work here. [7]

Plenty of Fish

Plenty of Fish launched in 2003. Match Group describes it as a low-pressure dating experience, and its own site invites people to join a community of singles. We check it with the same photo, name, age, and area comparison as every other app. [1] [8]

Facebook Dating

Facebook Dating lives inside the Facebook app for Android and iPhone and can’t be used on a computer. Members set up a separate Dating profile, and Meta says Dating profiles and conversations aren’t shared outside of Dating, so looking at their regular Facebook page won’t show it. [9] [10]

Match

Match launched in 1995, and Match Group describes it as a destination for singles looking for a long-term relationship. We check it the same way as the newer swipe apps, starting from their photo. [1]

Raya

Raya describes itself as a private, membership-based community. Because it’s private by design, expect less to be visible there than on other apps. Your report states plainly what we couldn’t confirm on Raya. [11]

Tantan

Tantan presents itself as a way to discover people nearby. If they might spell their name differently on it, for example in another alphabet, add that spelling as a nickname when you set up the search. [12]

Happn

Happn has been running since 2014, and its tagline is “Cross paths. Date local.” Since it centers on people nearby, add the places where they spend time, such as work or the gym, as well as their home city. [13]

Why don’t we claim more apps than we name?

Some services don’t say which dating apps they cover. We name all 12, because a report only helps if you know where we looked. Every report lists the apps we checked, and that includes a “nothing found” report.

Naming the apps also means being honest about the edges. If they use an app that isn’t on this list, our report can’t speak to it. On any app, a profile can be hidden or created after we check. That’s why the 30-day re-scan exists: it checks the same apps again a month after your report.

What do we compare on every app?

  • Their photo, which carries the most weight because it’s the hardest detail to change.
  • The name and any nicknames you gave us.
  • Their age range.
  • The city and areas where they live, work, or spend time.
  • Recent activity or profile updates, when an app makes them visible.
We’re independent and have no connection to any of these apps or the companies that own them. A profile that turns up on one of them is something to weigh carefully, never proof of cheating by itself. For lawful use only.

Which apps should I pick if I’m not sure?

Why isn’t their app on your list?

We only list apps we actually check. If theirs isn’t one of the 12, our report can’t tell you anything about it, and we’d rather say so than imply coverage we don’t have.
