Social Catfish review
Social Catfish review: what’s free, what it costs, and what it finds
Social Catfish is a people search and reverse image search membership run from California. Here’s what its free search shows, how the trial turns into a monthly plan, what its refund terms say, and when a one-time dating-app check fits better.
Social Catfish is a real, paid people search and reverse image search service run by SocialCatfish, LLC of Murrieta, California. Its free image search only shows whether matches exist. To see them, you need a membership: a short trial, then a plan billed every 30 days. Its terms say there are no refunds once a search has been run. [1] [2] [3]

Who runs Social Catfish, and is it legit?
Social Catfish’s terms are an agreement with SocialCatfish, LLC, and its contact details list an address in Murrieta, California, a phone line at (844) 422-8347, and welcome@socialcatfish.com. Its FAQ calls it an online investigation site based in Southern California that helps find lost connections and checks whether the person you’re talking to online is who they say they are. [1] [2]
So yes, it’s a legitimate business with published terms and a support line. Whether it’s right for you depends on the details below: how the trial bills, what the refund terms cover, and what its review profiles show. [6] [7]
Is Social Catfish free?
Partly. Starting a search on socialcatfish.com costs nothing. Its reverse image search page says the free image search shows whether matching profiles exist, and that you need a membership to view the full report, including the owner’s name, address, social profiles, and linked phone numbers. Its FAQ describes the same flow for name, email, phone, and username searches: the search runs, then you’re asked to sign up for a trial and a monthly membership before you see results. [1] [3]
Its other free tool, the Privacy Lock exposure scan, is about your own data. It looks for your name, address, phone, and email on people-search and data-broker sites. Removing what it finds is a paid plan at $14.99 a month or $150 a year. [5]
So if you searched “Social Catfish free” hoping to see who’s behind a photo or a dating profile without paying, expect a sign-up screen before any names appear. One recent Trustpilot reviewer complained that the search gives no free sample of its results. [6]
How much does Social Catfish cost?
Social Catfish sells name and contact searches and image searches as separate plans. A member with only an image search plan can’t run name, email, phone, or username searches, and some searches are sold as upgrades on top of a plan. Its own pages quote several prices: [1] [4]
- One FAQ answer: $6.48 for social searches or $6.87 for image searches for the first 3 days, then $28.94 or $28.97 every 30 days, depending on the plan. [1]
- Another FAQ answer: $5.73 for 5 days of unlimited social searches, then $27.48 a month, or $5.99 for 5 days of unlimited image searches, then $26.99 a month. [1]
- Its membership levels page: Social Search Pro and Image Search at $36.00 a month each. [4]
- Its terms: monthly plans, plus quarterly plans billed every 3 months at a discounted rate. Upgrades cost extra. [2]
Those figures don’t all line up, so the price on the checkout screen is the one that counts. If you want both name and image searches, plan on two memberships. At the FAQ’s first set of prices, that’s $57.91 every 30 days until you cancel. [1]
How does the Social Catfish trial turn into a monthly charge?
Its FAQ says you’re billed right away for the first 3 days, then charged automatically every 30 days at your plan’s monthly rate. Another answer on the same page says the trial includes 5 days and the membership that follows is billed 30 or more days at a time. Either way, the trial is the first step of a membership that keeps renewing. [1]
- Read the trial length and the renewal price on the checkout screen before you pay.
- Set a reminder for the day before the trial ends.
- Look for a card charge with a descriptor that refers to Stripe or PayPal. Social Catfish’s terms say that’s how its charges appear. [2]
- Watch your inbox. Its terms say it can change prices or billing after an email notice, and that staying enrolled counts as accepting the change. [2]
What is Social Catfish’s refund policy?
The refund section of its terms is short. Social Catfish says it can’t issue refunds once a search has been conducted or data has been accessed, because generating reports has immediate costs. It offers to walk you through your results instead. [2]
Other pages sound softer. Its FAQ says that if you’re not satisfied, you might be able to get your money back, and to call (844) 422-8347 or email welcome@socialcatfish.com to ask. Its membership levels page describes a “Happiness Guarantee” that refunds the money if it can’t find the information. If you were charged twice, the FAQ says to email or call so it can look into reversing the charge. [1] [4]
Its terms say they’re agreed to at signup, so treat them as the rule. If a refund matters to you, ask support before you search and keep the written reply. We refund in full only if your report misses its guaranteed date. [2] [10]
How do you cancel Social Catfish?
- From your dashboard: open Manage Account, scroll to Plan Info, and click Cancel next to each plan. Its terms describe the same step as a small trash can icon under Account Plan Details, followed by a confirmation on screen and by email. [1] [2]
- By phone: call (844) 422-8347, Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM Pacific time. [2]
- By email: write to welcome@socialcatfish.com and say you want to cancel your membership. [1] [2]
Its terms say cancelling is always free. Cancelling stops future charges but keeps your account, so you can reactivate later. Deleting the account is a separate step that removes it from the platform. If you hold both a social and an image plan, cancel each one. [1] [2]
Where is the Social Catfish login, and what’s its phone number?
Choose Login in the Social Catfish site menu, then enter the email you signed up with and your password. The login box has a Forgot Password link. Once you’re in, your dashboard shows your search history and plan details. If you can’t get into your account at all, its FAQ says to contact customer support. [1]
The Social Catfish phone number is (844) 422-8347, and general questions go to welcome@socialcatfish.com. We’re a separate company, so we can’t reset a Social Catfish password or look up a Social Catfish account. [1] [2]
What does the Social Catfish reverse image search find on dating apps?
Its reverse image search page says the tool searches social platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and LinkedIn, plus dating sites like Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, Match, and Zoosk, and surfaces matching profiles where a photo has been used, even under another name. Its FAQ says a result can show the dating sites a person signed up for, along with contact details, places they’ve lived, and possible social profiles. An image search takes a few minutes. [1] [3]
That suits its main job well: spotting a stranger who uses stolen photos. Checking whether a partner has a live profile inside the apps is harder. Tinder says you can’t search the app for a specific person, and Social Catfish’s page doesn’t explain how it reaches profiles that sit behind an app’s login. The page also advertises a 95% success rate without a published method, and its own disclaimer says its information may not be 100% accurate, complete, or up to date. Treat a dating result as a possible profile to look at, never as proof. [1] [3] [8]
What do Social Catfish reviews on Trustpilot and the BBB say?
When we checked in October 2026, Social Catfish’s Trustpilot page showed a TrustScore of 2.1 out of 5 from 567 reviews: 58% five-star and 37% one-star, with little in between. Trustpilot noted that the company hadn’t invited reviews recently and hadn’t replied to negative ones. Trustpilot also says it doesn’t fact-check reviews. [6]
Recent one-star reviews mostly describe charges after a trial, refused refunds, and opt-out or deletion requests that reviewers say went unanswered. Five-star reviews often praise individual staff members for help with romance-scam cases. [6]
Its Better Business Bureau profile shows Social Catfish as not BBB accredited and “Not Rated”, with two alerts: Accreditation Revocation and Misuse of BBB Name and/or Logo. [7]

Who should pick Social Catfish, and when does a one-time check fit better?
Social Catfish fits if
- You only have an email, phone number, or username and want to know who’s behind it.
- You suspect someone you met online is using stolen photos.
- You want background-style details such as past addresses or public records.
- You’ll run many searches in a month and you’re comfortable cancelling on time.
A one-time dating-app check fits if
- You already know who the person is and want to know whether they have a dating profile.
- You want every app named, so you know exactly what was checked.
- You’d rather pay once than manage a trial and a renewing plan.
- You want a confidence note on each possible match and a report date you can plan around.
CheaterBusting checks up to 12 named apps from one clear photo and their city. Each possible match comes with a confidence note, and reports take days rather than minutes. For a full side-by-side, see our Social Catfish alternative page. [9]
