What does Cheaterbuster say about being free?

Its About page asks the question directly, “Is Cheaterbuster free?”, and answers no. It says the service is paid because search infrastructure, monitoring, and ongoing model improvements cost money to run. Its FAQ gives the same reason under “Why is the service not free?” [2] [4]

We found no free plan or free tier on Cheaterbuster’s pages. Its terms mention trials only in general terms: if your first period is a trial or priced below the regular price, the plan renews at the regular price shown at checkout. [3]

What costs money on Cheaterbuster?

Here’s what you pay for, according to its homepage, FAQ, and terms:

• The search itself: $19.99 plus tax. [1]
• The subscription that follows. Current plans run as subscriptions with weekly updates, and they renew automatically at the renewal price shown at checkout until you cancel. [2] [3]
• Each extra person. One subscription covers one person, so searching someone else means buying another. [2]
• Add-on reports, sold as a one-time purchase or a monthly subscription. Checkout shows which before you pay, and monthly add-ons renew until cancelled. [3]

A subscription includes facial recognition search, dating app search, social analysis, and date safe monitoring for that one person. Charges show on your statement as WHOP*CHEATERBUSTER or CHEATERBUSTER. [2]

Add-ons are where recent Trustpilot reviewers say their costs grew. Several describe paying the entry price, then being asked to pay more to unblur results or to add details such as another photo or location. When we checked in October 2026, Trustpilot showed no rating for Cheaterbuster, with a notice that its rating was unavailable due to a breach of guidelines and that a number of fake reviews had been removed. Trustpilot doesn’t fact-check reviews, so read these as one side’s account. [7]

Does Cheaterbuster renew automatically?

Yes. Its terms say subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel, and that checkout shows what you pay today, the date of your next charge, the renewal price, and how often it renews. Renewals aren’t refunded, so cancel before the renewal date if one search is all you wanted. [3]

Can a Cheaterbuster refund make it free?

In one case. Its terms refund a first purchase in full when the search returns no matching profiles, if you ask within 30 days. It also refunds technical failures, duplicate or wrong charges, and charges made after a confirmed cancellation. [3]

The refund doesn’t apply once a search returns one or more matching profiles, even if they aren’t the person you meant. It also doesn’t cover an add-on report you’ve unlocked or a plan that renewed on schedule. A first search that turns up possible matches is a paid search, whatever you make of the results. [3]

Is there a free cheater buster app?

The App Store lists free-to-download apps with Cheaterbuster in their names, such as “CheaterBuster AI: AI Checker” and “Cheaterbuster - Social Catfish”. Both listings name individual sellers rather than Magnus Technology LLC, the company Cheaterbuster’s terms name as operator, and both list in-app purchases from $4.99 to $59.99. The cheaterbuster.com pages we checked don’t link to an app listing. [3] [5] [6]

A free download can still charge you inside the app. Before you pay, check the seller name on the listing and the price of each in-app purchase.

Which free alternatives to Cheaterbuster actually work?

No free tool can look inside every dating app for one person. These checks cost nothing, though, and each one can turn up something useful.

1. A reverse image search with Google Lens or TinEye

Upload two or three of their public photos to Google Lens, which returns similar images and websites that contain the image. TinEye is free for non-commercial use and finds copies of the same picture. This is the best free way to spot reused photos on public pages and social accounts. [8] [9]

2. A name and city search

Search their full name in quotes with their city, then try nicknames and any username they use elsewhere. A reused handle can lead to old public profiles you didn’t know about.

3. A friend who already uses the apps

A trusted friend who is single and swiping in the same area may come across a profile in the normal course of things. Don’t ask anyone to create an account just to look, or to match and message.

4. Asking them

Where do free checks stop?

• At the app’s login. Tinder says you can’t search the app for a specific person, and Google says it doesn’t index pages that need a log-in, so in-app profiles rarely show up in a search engine or a reverse image search. [10] [11]
• At your friend’s settings. A friend sees only the apps, area, and age range they use.
• At timing. A profile that’s hidden or paused this week can be visible next week.
• At what “nothing” means. A few days of finding nothing fits a world where they have a profile as well as one where they don’t.

• One clear photo and the city they live or work in is enough to start. Name and age help rule out look-alikes.
• We check 12 named apps: Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, OkCupid, Grindr, Badoo, Plenty of Fish, Facebook Dating, Match, Raya, Tantan, and Happn.
• Each possible match comes with a confidence note, plus a list of what we couldn’t confirm.
