Data freshness

How fresh are dating app search results?

Dating profiles change all the time. Here’s how current your report is, why some profiles are older than they look, and how to tell the difference.

Your report reflects what was publicly visible on each app when we checked it, between your order and your guaranteed report date. Profiles can be hidden, paused, restored, or edited the next day, so every report is a snapshot. Recent activity or updates are noted when an app shows them, and the 30-day re-scan takes a second snapshot a month later.

Private & anonymous. We never contact them — and your details are never shared or sold.

How current is the information in my report?

As current as the day we looked. We check each app you picked after you order, so nothing in the report predates your search. The profiles themselves are another matter. A profile we find today may have been made last week or seven years ago.

Why can an old profile look active?

Because deleting the app and deleting the account are two different things. Tinder, Hinge, and Bumble all say uninstalling the app doesn’t delete the account, and Bumble adds that long inactivity won’t delete it either. A profile can sit there, fully visible, years after its owner stopped opening the app. [1] [2] [3]

Location adds to the confusion. Hinge says it doesn’t update a member’s location automatically, so a forgotten profile can still list a neighborhood they left long ago. [4]

What do activity labels really tell you?

Activity signals on Tinder, Hinge, and Bumble

Tinder
What it showsA green dot next to people who were online in the last 24 hours. [5]
Can it be hidden?Yes. Members can turn off their activity status. [5]
What it can’t tell youWhat they did in the app or who they talked to.
Hinge
What it showsAn approximate “Active Now” or “Active Today,” on profiles seen in Discover, Standouts, or Likes You. [6]
Can it be hidden?Yes. Hiding your own status also hides everyone else’s from you. [6]
What it can’t tell youAnything about conversations. Matches don’t see the label at all. [6]
Bumble
What it showsNo online or “last seen” indicator for anyone. [7]
Can it be hidden? There’s nothing to hide.
What it can’t tell youWhether a profile is in use, judging from the profile alone.
Checked October 2026 against each app’s help center.

When an app shows a sign of recent activity or a recent update, we note it on the match card. When it doesn’t, the card says timing couldn’t be confirmed. A missing label doesn’t mean a profile is abandoned.

How do profiles come and go?

  • Snoozed. Bumble lets members hide their profile for 24 hours, 72 hours, a week, or indefinitely, without deleting anything. [8]
  • Paused. A paused Hinge profile isn’t shown to new people, while chats with existing matches continue. [9]
  • Hidden. Tinder members can turn off Discovery so new people stop seeing them. [10]
  • Restored. Tinder is testing a 90-day window to restore a deleted profile’s name, age, and gender, and Bumble lets a deleted account be restored for up to 28 days. [1] [11] [3]

Any of these can flip from one week to the next. A profile switched off on the day we check won’t be in your report. Switched back on a few weeks later, it’s visible again.

How does a 30-day re-scan keep results fresh?

The re-scan checks the same apps again 30 days after your first report and sends you a second report. It costs $49 as an add-on with Essential or Complete. Two snapshots a month apart tell you more than one.

  • A profile in both reports was there both times.
  • A profile only in the second report may be new or recently switched back on.
  • A profile that disappears may have been hidden, paused, or deleted.
  • New photos or a new city between reports suggest someone is updating the profile.

How can you tell an old profile from a current one?

  • Photos you can date: a haircut, a pet, a place, or an event whose timing you know.
  • Life details in the bio: a job, a city, or an age that fits now rather than years ago.
  • Activity or update notes on the match card, on apps that show them.
  • What changed between your two reports, if you added the re-scan.
A fresh-looking profile still isn’t proof of cheating on its own, and a stale one isn’t proof of innocence. Freshness speaks to timing, so weigh it next to everything else you know.

Does deleting a dating app delete the profile?

Not on Tinder, Hinge, or Bumble. Each says the account has to be deleted from inside the app. Removing the app from a phone leaves the profile in place.

Can CheaterBusting see when someone last logged in?

No. We don’t see login times. If an app publicly shows a sign of recent activity, like Tinder’s green dot, we note it. Otherwise timing is listed as something we couldn’t confirm.

How old can a profile in my report be?

Any age. A profile stays up until its owner deletes the account, so a match can be years old. The match card says when we couldn’t confirm timing.

If a profile disappears after my report, was it deleted?

Maybe. It could also be snoozed, paused, or hidden from new people, and from the outside those look the same. Treat a missing profile on a re-scan as a change to note, without assuming why.

Why does a profile list a city they left years ago?

Some apps keep whatever location the member last set. Hinge, for example, says it doesn’t update location automatically. An outdated city often points to a forgotten profile, and the confidence note reflects it.

Is a re-scan worth it if the first report found something?

It can be. A second report shows whether the profile is still there a month later and whether anything changed, like new photos or a different city. That helps you tell an active profile from a forgotten one.
