Before you pay for a dating profile search, check six things: the full price and whether it renews, which apps are actually searched, when the report arrives, what the refund policy says about “nothing found,” what the report contains, and what happens to the photos you upload. If a site won’t say any of these plainly, treat that as your answer.

Why does the fine print matter so much here?

Because you’re not shopping calmly. You’re worried, and a low price or a quick promise can feel like relief. That’s when people click “start” without reading.

Some services start low and keep charging. Social Catfish’s FAQ, for example, lists trials of $5.73 to $6.87 that renew at $26.99 to $28.97 every 30 days, depending on the plan. A cheap first charge isn’t the price. The price is everything you’ll be billed until you cancel.

A few minutes of checking now saves you money and a second round of stress later.

What should you check before you pay?

Use this list for any service, ours included.

  1. The full price, today and later. Is it one payment or a subscription? Is there a trial price that jumps? Is tax included? If you can’t find the total, don’t continue.
  2. Whether it renews, and how to cancel. If it does, find the renewal price, the date, and the cancellation steps before you enter a card.
  3. Which apps are searched, by name. “Multiple dating apps” and “dozens of sites” don’t tell you whether the app you’re worried about is in the list.
  4. When the report arrives. A date you can see before paying is better than “soon.” Ask what happens if it’s late.
  5. What the refund policy says about “nothing found.” Read this one twice. Policies differ a lot, as the table below shows.
  6. What’s in the report. Does it show why each profile was matched, how sure the service is, and what it couldn’t confirm? Or just a list of names?
  7. What happens to your uploads. Where do your photos and the other person’s details go, and does the service contact the person you’re checking?
  8. What it asks for. A password, a login code, or access to their phone is a hard no. Walk away.

How do the services compare on the money questions?

Here is what each company’s own pages say. We make CheaterBusting, so we’ve listed our own limits too.

Service What you pay Apps named If nothing is found
CheaterBusting $119 (up to 4 apps), $169 (up to 8), or $229 (all 12, with a 30-day re-scan). One payment, nothing renews. 12 named apps No refund. A refund only if the report is late.
Cheaterbuster $19.99 plus tax per search, sold as a subscription with weekly updates. The terms say subscriptions renew automatically. No list published Full refund of a first search with no matching profiles, if you ask within 30 days. Renewals are generally not refunded.
OopsBusted $4.99 per app or $10.99 for all three. Photo matching costs $9.99 more. Paid once. Tinder, Bumble, Hinge A no-match result isn’t grounds for a refund. Refunds cover technical failure or incorrect fulfillment.
Social Catfish A trial of $5.73 to $6.87, then $26.99 to $28.97 every 30 days, per its FAQ. No list published Its terms say no refunds once a search has been run.
CheatEye A Tinder search from $17.90. An optional Radar subscription follows a 7-day free trial. Tinder, with Bumble, Hinge, Happn, and OkCupid as options Generally none. Exception: it finds nothing and you prove within 48 hours they’re on Tinder.
CheaterScanner No price on its homepage, FAQ, or terms. No list published A 30-day guarantee, only if the scan finds no matching profiles at all.

Checked October 2026. Prices and policies change, so confirm them on each company’s own site.

A few honest notes. Cheaterbuster says most searches finish within minutes, and ours take days. Cheaterbuster refunds a first search that finds nothing, and we don’t. A trial or a single-app check costs less than our $119 up front. If those matter more to you than twelve named apps and a guaranteed date, another service may fit better.

On the other side, of the services in this table we name the most apps, and we’re the only one that refunds the whole order if the report is late. Nothing renews. The longer comparison lives in our guide to the best cheater finder apps, where we show our criteria. We make CheaterBusting, so read it with that in mind.

How do you weigh a subscription against a one-time payment?

Add up what you’ll really pay.

Say you stay on a plan that renews at $26.99 to $28.97 every 30 days. Four renewals come to about $108 to $116, plus the trial charge. That’s close to our $119 four-app search, which never renews. A single month costs less. Several months cost more. The right answer depends on how long you’d need.

Our pricing page shows each package, the delivery date for the number of apps you choose, and the add-ons. If you’re unsure whether you need one look or ongoing watching, see one-time search vs monitoring.

What should a report and a privacy policy cover?

A good report explains itself. For each possible match, you should be able to see what lined up (name, age, city, photo), how sure the service is, and what it couldn’t confirm. A report with nothing found should say which apps were checked. Ours does, and you can see the format in our sample report.

On privacy, look for plain answers. Where do your photos go? Who can see the search? Does the service ever message the person? Our security page answers those for us. A service that can’t answer them in a sentence or two hasn’t thought about them enough.

What are the red flags?

Pause if you see any of these:

  • A price that appears only after you upload photos. You should know the total before you share anything.
  • A free upload that charges to see the results. Ask what you’re paying for before you start.
  • A promise of exact login times or live locations. Bumble says it doesn’t show when members are online or when they last used the app. A service can’t read what the app doesn’t show.
  • Perfect-accuracy claims. No search can promise you the truth about a person.
  • A request for passwords or codes. Getting into someone’s accounts can break the law in many places.
  • Pressure. Countdown timers and “last chance” banners have no place in a decision like this.

What should you ask support before paying?

If a page leaves something unclear, email them and save the answer with the date. These questions work for any service:

  1. Does this exact plan include the apps I care about, and where is that written?
  2. Is this one payment, or will I be billed again? If so, when and how much?
  3. What happens if the report is late, or finds nothing?
  4. How do I cancel, and is there a cutoff date?
  5. Does anyone contact the person I’m checking?

A clear answer in writing is a good sign. A vague one tells you what you need to know.

What can a search not tell you, whatever you pay?

Less than you’d like. A possible match is a lead, not proof of cheating, and a report with nothing found doesn’t prove they aren’t on the apps. Profiles can be old, hidden, or someone else entirely. No payment changes that.

FAQ

Is a cheaper dating profile search worse?

Not automatically. A cheaper search may cover fewer apps, take longer, or renew. Compare the apps named, the delivery date, and the refund terms, not just the price.

Should I start a low-priced trial?

Only if you’ve read what happens after it ends. Find the renewal price and date, and put a reminder in your calendar before you pay.

What will show on my bank statement?

Cheaterbuster says its charges appear as WHOP*CHEATERBUSTER or CHEATERBUSTER. Ours show under a discreet billing name. Ask any service what yours will say.

What if I change my mind after paying?

With us, payments are final unless the report is late, so decide before you pay. Other services differ, which is why the refund terms belong on your checklist.

Why do you ask for my email?

We send the report there. It’s your own contact email, and we never contact the person you’re checking.

Ready for a private check?

If a one-payment search across 12 apps fits what you need, you can start a private search. You’ll see your guaranteed report date before you pay.
